NORTHMINSTER PARENT GROUP MEETING NOTES

Friday, December 14th, 2018 – Noon to 1pm

  1. President’s Report

    1. The craft fair was a great success! Huge thanks to everyone who supported!

  2. Director’s/Treasurer’s Report:  Shelli Harder

    1. Parent group has just under $17,000 on hand. Unfortunately much of that is going toward the plumbing issue, and the remainder will continue to fund the new bathrooms.

    2. Santa is coming at the end of this week. Parents are welcome to join

  3. Teacher’s Report:  Michele Allen

    1. Parent’s, please take this magical time of year and really enjoy your break with your children. They’re only this little for a little while. Happy Holidays!!

  4. Craft Fair Wrap Up

    1. $3500 in profit- (see back for breakdown)

    2. Thank you Sara and everyone who worked so hard to make this event happen!

      1. The snowman ornaments, slime, and hot chocolate crafts were the most popular

    3. Changes for next year

      1. We still have 4 fully supplied crafts for next year’s craft fair- so the profit margin will be even greater

      2. Possibly start earlier and add breakfast items (muffins) to the bake sale

      3. Increase the buy it now price or not have one at all.

      4. Possibly move the bake sale area and Santa to new locations to increase traffic

  5. Rummage Sale January 26th!- Emily Rockwell

    1. Room moms: Please send out an email to classes asking for donations. We accept clothes, toys, books, furniture, etc.

    2. Big item donations will be accepting starting 1/7

    3. Suggestions for advertisements:

      1. Nextdoor, facebook, possibly a banner outside Costco

    4. Prices will start higher, and will drop if no one is buying. $2/item seems low

    5. Feature items that are name brand or new with tags

    6. Please volunteer to help sort the week of the rummage sale- sign ups will be sent out soon

    7. Preschool Parents: You have the opportunity to shop on Friday at drop off (first dibs!)

    8. The option of childcare was mentioned during the rummage sale- it is being looked into

    9. Everything that isn’t sold is donated to a Military mom’s group after the fact

    10. Adding a bake sale to the rummage sale was mentioned

  6. Other Fundraisers

    1. Dine-N-Donate updates

      1. Chipotle: $148.07

      2. Yogurt land: $25.82

      3. Both locations will be contacted, as the consensus felt the employees didn’t ring in the fundraiser correctly, yielding a smaller donation for the school

    2. Massage Envy

      1. An email has been sent out with details on the Massage Envy fundraiser

      2. They will donate a portion of bookings in December and January to the preschool (please be sure to mention Northminster upon booking)

  7. New Business

    1. PLEASE purchase a new beard for Santa

    2. Room moms will be sending out information on Santa and his arrival at Northminster this year

    3. Parents night out is the 2nd friday of every month. It is $5/kid or $10/family from 6-9pm. Children must be potty trained.

  8. Closed for Christmas Break December 21st @12pm-January 6th.

*School resumes at 7:30am on January 7th.

  1. Craft Fair Saturday, December 1 from 10am-1pm

  • Please help spread the word for attendance and vendors

    • Flyers- Please pass out!

    • Banner is up advertising craft fair in front of church on Clairemont Mesa Blvd

    • Facebook/Nextdoor- Please advertise for the craft/vendor fair on neighborhood facebook groups and Nextdoor app.  The event is open to the public.

    • There are 12 crafts and enough materials to make 100 of each craft.  Additionally, there will be canvas bags with the Northminster Logo to decorate and hold crafts.  Each craft is $2.50. For $25, each child may make all 12 crafts and get the tote bag for free. Tote bags will be $3 if purchased separately.

      If children are unable to complete all the crafts that day, they may take items "to go" to complete at home.  

  • Volunteers:

    • People who have volunteered to lead a craft: supplies have been ordered and you may pick up the supplies for your craft the weekend after Thanksgiving at Sarah Collins' house or Monday after Thanksgiving at school.  Please make one sample of your craft and make a notecard with directions to make the craft as volunteers will be staffing the tables to help. Examples of helpful hints to put on notecard: "glue takes 1 min to dry for this step before moving to next step", "help kids glue the pom poms on for this step".
      Wednesday, November 28 meeting at Sarah Collins' house right after drop-off to finalize planning for craft/vendor fair
      Friday, November 30 after drop-off, please stay to help set up for the craft/vendor fair.  You may bring a lunch for your child and you if you stay to help set up during lunch bunch, your child gets free lunch bunch that day.
      Saturday, December 1 please arrive at 9:30 am to help set up.

  • Volunteer sign-up sheets

    • Volunteers are needed to staff craft tables and to help on Sat Dec 1.  If you know any middle school or high school children, please get in touch with them to see if they can help out.  They can earn volunteer hours.

  • Sponsorships

    • Please see email from school sent this week regarding sponsorships for craft tables.  Google docs link is in email. Might be a great idea to ask grandparents to sponsor a craft table.  May pay online.

  • Silent Auction

    • Each class is responsible for supplying items for baskets.  Each classroom now has a box in front with a list of suggested items to donate.  Class parents may want to create a spreadsheet/google doc to email parents to get signups for certain items.

NORTHMINSTER PARENT GROUP MEETING MINUTES

  1. WELCOME!  

  1. Director’s/Treasurer’s Report:  Shelli Harder

    1. Plans to update the outside bathrooms is a $40,000 project, so fundraising proceeds will go towards that.

    2. Parent’s night out through the church is in the works, it will be $5/family (siblings included). Church elders and volunteers in the high school range will be the helpers watching the children. If anyone can give input on their needs, we’d love to meet them. November 16th will be the first parent’s night out. This is not a fundraiser- it is a church outreach.

    3. Introduction to Pastor Jay- the children are loving the “show” he puts on. Chapel is generally first Tues/Wed of the month. Look for him at the gate once a month! The church is looking to create a children’s program- please join!

    4. Chili cook off and bounce house after church this Sunday 10/14.

    1. October is very fun and the teachers are looking forward to open house!

    2. This month, the enrichment program was a magician and the children loved it.

  1. Ice Cream Social/Open House - October 26th  6:00-7:00pm

    1. $2 for ice cream

    5. Parent’s night out may align with Dine-N-Donate in the future to help with higher participation

Rummage Sale

Rummage Sale is this Saturday!!!  We hope to see you there!  If you would like an advanced shopping opportunity please sign up to help volunteer and set up.

First Parent Group Meeting of the Year

Welcome back to school!  We have the first parent group meeting of the school year on Friday September 15th at 12:00pm in the Fireside room.  We hope you will be able to be there.  We will be going over the events of the year and sign up sheets will available.  The hour of lunch bunch will be free for any currently enrolled students.  Your child can eat lunch with their friends on the playground, please be sure to pack them a lunch.  Lunch will be provided for the adults attending the meeting.  

The NPS Parent Group is a great way to stay stay informed of what is going on at school, to have a voice to make a difference and make connections within our community.  We hope to see you there!  If you have any questions or would like to rsvp to the parent group meeting please contact the office via email preschool@northminstersandiego.com or call the office at (858) 270-3760.

Thank You!!

Thank you for all of your hard work this year to help make our school the best it can be.  Without your efforts we never would have been able to hold all the fun events during the year.  We will miss seeing your faces this summer but we hope you enjoy every minute of vacation.  We will see you at the end of August for Parent Teacher conferences, August 30 & 31st.  Keep a look out for an email with you class assignments, we will be sending them out at the end of July.  Have a great summer and we will see you soon, rested and ready to take on another great year! 

Memory Tiles

Last chance to sign up for memory tiles!  We will be doing our memory tiles for the walls out on the playground on May 4th and May 5th. It is a wonderful fundraising project run by a former parent.  This parent group sponsored fundraiser is $35.00 for a 6x6 tile that will be permanently affixed to the outside walls by the playground.  Please fill out the google form if you would like your child to create a tile.   There will also be paper forms in the office.  If you have any questions please let us know. Hello Northminster Families,

We are celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week the first week of May.  This email is to inform you of the suggested gifts for each day of the week and give you the opportunity to sign up for breakfast goodies for the teacher staff meeting.  

 

Monday May 1st - A single stem flower from your garden or your neighbor's garden .  Happy May Day!

Tuesday May 2nd -Help stock the break room!  K cup coffee, tea bags, coffee creamer, granola bars, assorted snack food, etc.  

Wednesday May 3rd - Chocolates or a Special Treat

Thursday May 4th - Homemade Card made by your child

Friday May 5th - A Book to supplement the classroom library (gently used from your own library & age appropriate please)

 

The Parent Group will also be providing a breakfast for the teachers during their staff meeting on Tuesday (please see google doc sign up sheet if you would like to contribute) as well as a Thank You lunch on Friday.

Thank you for celebrating our wonderful teachers at Northminster.  They sure love our kids, so we want to show them how much we love and appreciate them too!

Rummage Sale Week!!!

Hi everyone!  Just a reminder that it is Rummage Sale week!  We are still accepting donations (kids items only please)!  We can take toys, books, clothes, furniture, play equipment, room decor, basically anything for your child.  We cannot accept cribs (converted to a toddler bed is ok) or carseats.  

You can drop off your donations in the office or Fireside room this week.  

We are still looking for volunteers to help sort items.  Please let me know if you are available.  By helping to work the sale you will get first chance to shop!

Upcoming parent Group Meeting

We have our monthly Parent Group meeting this Friday at 12pm in the Fireside room.  It will be our holiday party, so a bit more festive than our usual meetings.  We will be having a cookie exchange after the meeting.  Please bring 2 dozen cookies as well as a container to take home your treats.  Please RSVPto Andree in the Preschool office.   We are looking forward to seeing you all there!

NORTHMINSTER PARENT GROUP MEETING MINUTES

Friday, September 16, 2016

The first Parent Group meeting of the 2016-17 school year was a success. Many parents and a grandparent were in attendance and eager to learn about the upcoming school year. Here is a list of the 2016-17 Parent Group Board.

  • President - Jennifer Haak

  • Rummage Sale Coordinator - OPEN POSITION (Collected items are usually for the 0-7 age range, items are tax deductible and left overs are donated to local military families)

  • Carnival Chair - OPEN POSITION

  • Silent Auction Chair - Leslie Neilson

    Kindergarten Options Night will take place September 30th. Choice Office will be present, flyers will be provided and some representing schools will be in attendance.

Open House is coming up October 21st and the Parent Group will be hosting $1 Ice Cream Social from 6-7p.m. Volunteers signed up at this meeting, but we still need a few more volunteers to help at one hour intervals for the social.

    Our highly anticipated Wild West Carnival will take place November 5th from 10a.m.-2p.m. The Co-Marshall position still needs to be filled and we still need volunteers for various tasks including basket assembly, rock baking and ticket sales. An October Carnival Meeting is TBD.

Wild West Carnival Committee Task Notes

  • Game Booths- Sell food, bake sale, pony rides, silent auction

  • Classroom Baskets- Baskets will be made available the last week of September/first week of October. Asked for volunteers.

  • Volunteers- Needed for prep work. Families are asked to donate 2 volunteer hours/year and 1 hour is asked to be donated for the carnival

  • Vendor/Marketing/Graphics- Andree will book face painting. Vendor activities have already been booked. Volunteers will be reimbursed for advertisements.
